Dr. Jayme Trahan

As a native of Acadiana, Dr. Trahan feels it is a great honor and privilege to return to Lafayette to apply the skills he has obtained through 15 years of education and training to help treat patients of this great community.

Dr. Trahan obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, graduating in the top percentile of his class. While at LSU, he received the LSU Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in 2001 and 2002 and was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He continued his education in New Orleans attending the LSU School of Medicine where he excelled in the neurological sciences. During his time in medical school, he spent time volunteering in various programs including Habitat for Humanity as well as Camp Tiger, a summer camp held for the disabled youth of our state. Dr Trahan was also involved in the recovery efforts associated with Hurricane Katrina. He flew via Acadian Ambulance helicopter to the Superdome 48 hours after hurricane landfall to provide medical care to those who evacuated to the dome. Upon completion of his medical school education, he chose to remain in Louisiana for his residency training in neurological surgery.

Dr. Trahan completed an internship in the LSU Department of Surgery. During that time, he received extensive training taking care of critically ill trauma patients at the Interim Louisiana Public Hospital, also known as University Hospital. Upon completion of his internship, he began his residency in the Department of Neurosurgery under the leadership and guidance of department chairman Dr. Frank Culicchia. There he received in-depth training in all fields of neurosurgery with a heavy focus on treating degenerative spinal pathology from both a traditional, open approach to utilizing state-of-the-art minimally invasive techniques. He also received extensive training in the treatment of traumatic injury to the brain and spine. During his training, the LSU Department of Neurosurgery was recognized nationally by receiving the Health Grades Top 10% in Nation Neurosurgery Excellence Award. During this time, Dr. Trahan continued his academic pursuits. He authored multiple publications in globally recognized journals as well as co-authored multiple book chapters on the treatment of disorders of the spine. Because of these efforts, he received both the LANS John Jackson Award as well as the LANS Dean Echols Award.

Dr. Trahan specializes in performing minimally invasive spinal surgery; however, he also performs a wide spectrum of neurosurgical procedures ranging from simple spinal injections to complex cranial surgery.
